Unless you’re some kind of misanthropic crank (or an unlucky sufferer of a phobia for felt), you probably love Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo the Great, Dr. Teeth, and all the rest of the gang known as The Muppets. But there’s very little chance you love The Muppets quite as much as Rhett Safranek, who was recently recognized by the folks at Guinness World Records for having the largest collection of The Muppets memorabilia in the world. Here’s Rhett, explaining how the whole thing began:
“My first item was a set of two The Best of The Muppet Show VHS tapes. My parents found it at a Walmart and remembered the show from when they were kids. They said I was about two months old when they got me those movies, and after watching those over and over, my parents got me more of the series. I guess those tapes are special because they were what introduced me to The Muppet Show.”
The 16-year-old Muppet maniac’s collection includes a grand total of 1,841 items, and will doubtlessly continue to grow as long as their remains new objects from one of the most highly marketable franchises in the world to acquire. Personally, I plan to use this moment as the inspirational catalyst to one day be recognized for my massive collection of Dog City memorabilia. Paws crossed!
