Jay-Z has been on a real fine art kick lately, dropping several references to famous artists on his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail, and rapping for six straight hours in a New York City art exhibit.
Now, artist Alex Reyes has put the association between Jay and the fine art world on canvas, with pieces rendering the rapper in works mimicking the styles of artists like Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Leonardo da Vinci, and more. But make no mistake, the portrait of Jay-Z seen in the pieces isn’t exactly an affectionate one. Check out this statement from the artist:
“We get it, you can wipe your ass with hundred dollar bills, but sorry Jay, you’re neither ‘the new Jean-Michel’ or ‘the modern day Pablo Picasso.’ If said artists could return the favor and include you in their work though, it might look something like this.”
You can see the pieces in the gallery above. And for more of Reyes’ work, head to his official website here.
