OK, so first of all, I’m going to apologize for the dearth of details in this article. But I’m just as in the dark as you are, and I can’t seem to find much specific information about the newest (and craziest) ad campaign from McDonald’s Hong Kong. But I can tell you it’s centered around a character called Jack the Dipper, who evidently is a preexisting character somewhere from the past of the McDonaldland universe.
From what I’ve been able to determine, Jack the Dipper is a Carmen Sandiego-like master thief who specializes in the theft of Chicken McNuggets – think of him as kind of a high-style Hamburglar, who happens to be named after the world’s most famous serial killer for some reason. Jack is enlisting the help of McDonald’s customers in Hong Kong to “steal” a set of 24K gold McNuggets, which you can reportedly do by playing a variety of online minigames unlocked by purchasing regular, non-metallic McNuggets. Here’s a very brief teaser for the campaign:
What else can be said about Jack the Dipper? Hopefully enough people outside of HK will be intrigued enough by the character for some additional information to make its way into the English-speaking mainstream, because I am way in the weeds with this guy. Stay tuned.
