One of the most fascinating aspects of a zero-gravity environment is the way fluids (like water) behave when there’s no gravity pulling them to Earth. And now all of us mortals on Earth who will never get the chance to experience this phenomenon for ourselves have our best look yet, thanks to a video made by astronauts on the International Space Station.
International Space Station astronauts Steve Swanson and Reid Wiseman joined the European Space Agency’s Alexander Gerst for some hijinks involving water in space that look like way too much fun to be scientific. Over the course of the experiment, the trio created a floating water bubble that looks like something out of James Cameron’s The Abyss, and as if that weren’t enough they stuck a GoPro camera inside.
The resulting footage is truly incredible, and will probably make the next CGI spectacle you see in a movie theater look hopelessly fake. You can watch it below, and for more on the International Space Station, click here.
