Sad superheroes are generally thought of as a cinematic trend, but in truth they’ve spread to video games and TV—and let’s face it, they’ve been scowling through comic books for decades now. A new trailer for the upcoming DC Comics superhero fighting game Injustice 2 shows that just because superheroes are being controlled by humans with the leisure time and disposable income required to enjoy video games, doesn’t mean they’re any happier than their counterparts in other media.
Injustice 2 evidently features the debut of Superman’s nemesis, Brainiac, who narrates the trailer with a lot of depressing stuff about moral deterioration and whatnot. Then there’s the punching, with Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and Batman having some really intense disagreements that apparently can’t be settled with advice from Lois or Alfred.
