We live in scary, turbulent times, and many of us take comfort in the vague notion that technology holds the solutions to all of our problems. Infineon is a manufacturer of semiconductors that gave us all a reason to feel hopeful again yesterday: A robot that can solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than a second.
That’s .637 seconds, to be precise, which naturally leaves any human Rubik’s Cube solvers in the dust—the current human record is a sluggish 4.74 seconds. For those interested in such things, the robotic nerd is a Sub1 high performance robot, and I suppose now it’s only a matter of time before some modern-day John Henry comes along and dies to beat the machine’s Rubik’s Cube record.
You can watch the Infineon Rubik’s Cube robot perform its incredible feat below. And, because I believe in the power of the human spirit, I’ll direct you to a Rubik’s Cube Amazon listing right here where you can order your own and get cracking.
