Rapper and actor Ice Cube has found a novel solution for the question of who will play him in an NWA biopic he’s developing with Universal. Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., has edged out other professional actors in the audition process and has been signed to play his dad in the movie.
The movie will be produced by Dr. Dre, the widow of Eazy-E, and Ice Cube, and will be titled Straight Outta Compton. According to Ice Cube himself, the movie will also feature “dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records… all of it.”
You can get the full story from The Wrap here. Interestingly, Eazy-E’s son was also in the running to play his famous father, but reportedly couldn’t make the grade. As for Ice Cube’s son, you can see in the photo up at the top (also from The Wrap) that the resemblance is definitely there. We’ll have to wait and see if he can capture his legendary father’s character in a way that goes beyond family resemblance.
