No one seems to know what happened to Jim Carrey. He went from being the consensus pick for Funniest Man in the World to a surprisingly competent dramatic actor to a guy who finally agreed to make a Dumb and Dumber sequel, and now he’s the subject of a new short documentary entitled I Needed Color, about the former In Living Color star’s secondary career of painter. Here he is on the craft, and why he’s drawn to it:
“I like the independence of it. I love the freedom of it. No one else tells you what you can or can’t do, most of the time. And there’s an immediacy to it.”
Who knows where Jim Carrey’s painting will take him, or what the future holds for his career, but it is interesting to see him talk about painting and his artistic impulses in I Needed Color. It’s only six minutes long, so if you’ve got the time you can give it a look below.
