i.Con: The World’s First Smart Condom

by Joseph

Film, music, and technology festival South by Southwest started in Austin, Texas today, so it’s only appropriate that today would be the day I learn of the existence of the i.Con, the first ever example of smart condom technology. And in a cynical ploy to get you to keep reading, I’ll introduce this little tidbit in the first paragraph: It’s reusable.

Before you pause to shriek at the heavens about technology having gone too far, you should know that the i.Con is not technically itself a condom, let alone a reusable one. Instead, it’s “a ring that will sit over a condom at the base, which you can use over and over again.” What can you use it for? It syncs up to your smartphone and feeds you all kinds of stats about your sexual activity, and it even has a sensor to detect the presence of STIs, if you’re one of those people who believes that knowledge is power.

You probably have a lot of questions, and you can seek answers at the i.Con’s FAQ at the British Condoms online store here. Welcome to the future.
