The Halloween film franchise has been trudging along for decades now, without any involvement from its original architect, John Carpenter. But according to a new press release from JC and Blumhouse Productions, the man himself is coming back into the fold, albeit not from the director’s chair where he unquestionably belongs:
“Tonight’s press gathering included a surprise appearance by none other than the father of HALLOWEEN himself, John Carpenter, who took the stage to confirm that he’s officially signed onto the new film as Executive Producer and Creative Consultant.”
Knowing what I know about John Carpenter, his “creative consultancy” will probably consist of him getting extremely high and saying something about Howard Hawks in between coughs, but it is a good sign that the keepers of the Halloween franchise going forward are at least trying to bring the series back to its streamlined roots.
The new Halloween is still in the early pre-production stages, but you can read the full press release on Carpenter’s return to the Michael Myers Cinematic Universe at Blumhouse’s official site right here. And you can expect Michael Myers to be back when you least expect him, as usual.
