The Fantastic Four media franchise has been kicking around for more than 50 years now, but its history on the silver screen hasn’t been great. First, there was the notorious mid-90s Roger Corman adaptation that was made not to be seen by anyone but just to retain legal rights to the property, and none of the subsequent films have quite managed to shake that reputation completely off (I kind of liked the Silver Surfer one though). Now, 20th Century Fox is giving it another shot, and the first teaser trailer for their attempt is here.
The most interesting thing about the first Fantastic Four trailer is how the superhero trappings of the story are obscured, making this seem like a much more restrained science-fiction drama than it (presumably) is, giving it an Interstellar vibe. I mean, we don’t even get one “it’s clobberin’ time” for goodness’ sake.
Will it be good? Will it be terrible? Will it just be kind of OK? We won’t know until the movie’s August 7th, 2015 release date, but for now you can watch the trailer below, and take a look at the film’s official website here.
