In what seems a surefire way to disappoint everyone, illustrator Jason Polan has titled a new book of his illustrations Every Person in New York. This is despite the fact that New York City has a population of more than 8.4 million people, and Polan’s book has illustrations of only 30,000 of them!
OK, so Every Person in New York is still an incredibly ambitious project, and most importantly Polan’s sketches are entertaining and funny, capturing a wide swath of humanity in his simple yet striking cartoon style. The drawings range from anonymous people catching a quick meal or suffering through a tedious commute to celebrities like Yoko Ono. And since the book is reportedly just volume one of the series, perhaps one day the title will be literally accurate.
Every Person in New York came out last month, and you can order a copy on Amazon here for a little under 16 bucks.
