ESPN Plus: Upcoming New Streaming Service Announced

by Joseph

In the spring of next year, sports fans will have yet another way to enjoy ESPN, with the launch of a new proprietary streaming service under the ESPN brand umbrella. It will be called ESPN Plus, and according to Disney CEO Bob Iger users of the service will be able to “stream our channels on an authenticated basis and subscribe to ESPN+ for additional sports coverage, including thousands of live sporting events.”

Details on ESPN Plus – like pricing information – are sparse, and as such it’s not totally clear what “an authenticated basis” means – possibly, it could mean that ESPN Plus would merely be a streaming service for cable subscribers, akin to HBO GO, or if will be a totally standalone paid subscription service available to anyone, like HBO Now.

In the meantime, you can read up on what we do know about ESPN Plus – which again, isn’t much – right here, and stay tuned for more details as we get closer to spring 2018.
