It’s a good time to be a Ferrari disciple, with that Ferrari theme park being built. And now another, more accessible, tribute to the man who started it all is also underway. It’s an Enzo Ferrari biopic to be directed by Michael Mann – and with Christian Bale almost set to play Ferrari as per recent casting reports.
The Enzo Ferrari biopic will be based on Brock Yates’ nonfiction book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races. Set in 1957, the film will focus on Ferrari’s life, work, and his response to the infamous crash that killed Spanish Ferrari driver Alfonso de Portago, his co-driver Edmund Nelson, and nine spectators at the Mille Miglia.
The movie is still a ways off, but with Bale and Mann on board it will hopefully be a good movie and appreciably different from the usual biopic fare. You can read a report on Bale’s talks to play the role at Variety here.
