As you probably remember, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade recently signed an endorsement deal with Chinese shoe brand Li-Ning. What you probably didn’t know is that this was not just your every-day endorsement deal.
What exactly do we mean by that? Well, it’s not for certain yet, but that contract could make Dwyane Wade the richest professional athlete of all time.
Not right away, of course. But in addition to the millions of dollars that Wade will be getting up-front (exact numbers haven’t been released as of yet), he’s also been given a “significant stake” in the company, as well as complete creative control over his brand with Li-Ning. When you consider these aspects of the contract, it’s no wonder that Wade gave up his 10-million-dollar-a-year deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand in order to become the public face of Li-Ning.
We may never know for sure, but between this deal and his NBA superstar salary, some analysts expect Wade’s net worth to be at an amazing $700 million by the time he retires!
