It sounds like a joke, but it’s pretty early in the year for April Fool’s Day. So Dos, Mattel’s recently announced sequel to its classic card game Uno, appears to be very real. According to The New York Post, the game is an attempt by the “struggling” game company to revitalize itself by updating several of the classics within its stable, including Barbie and Hot Wheels. But for whatever reason, 2017 was a good year for Uno, hence its getting a followup:
“The company says Uno sales were up 12 percent in 2017 from the year before. Mattel, which is based in El Segundo, California, has sought to sell Uno in more places, including dollar stores and video game shops. And it has also been chasing trends, releasing Uno cards with emojis, baby animals or unicorns. An Uno smartphone app is in the works for the spring, and Mattel already has launched a way to play the card game through Facebook Messenger.”
As for Dos, it’s essentially as if Uno was redesigned by Harvey Dent, with players creating two stacks of cards and throwing down two cards at a time instead of just one. The game will reportedly be released initially as a Target exclusive in March, followed by a wider release in August.
