Horrifyingly enough, it has been almost 16 years since the release of Donnie Darko, which is a much more disturbing time travel scenario than anything in the movie. Now, in honor of that occasion, the movie is getting a limited theatrical re-release.
This is happening in the US now, and not a few months ago when Donnie Darko turned 15, because this new 4K restoration was originally released in the UK. But it’s kind of appropriate that a movie this weird would celebrate its 15-1/2th anniversary instead. Now, it’s coming to the United States, and here’s the release schedule courtesy of Bloody Disgusting:
“The 4K restoration will premiere at the Vista in Los Angeles on March 30th, and officially open in Los Angeles at the Cinefamily and in New York at Metrograph on March 31st. It will also return for weeklong runs in Denver, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and San Francisco on March 31st, and in El Paso and Detroit on April 7. Special screenings include Jacksonville, Austin, Dallas, Honolulu, Lubbock, Baton Rouge, Sioux Falls, Oklahoma City, Tucson, Durham and Stamford throughout March and April.”
Anyway, you can see the trailer for the return of Donnie Darko below.
