Despite its position as the Citizen Kane of golden age arcade games, the original arcade version of Donkey Kong has become something of a lost classic over the years, as Nintendo has opted to re-release the cut down NES version rather than the original. But now, the game is available as part of the Switch’s Arcade Archives series.
The Arcade Archives version of Donkey Kong is available for download on the Nintendo Switch eShop now. And according to Venture Beat, it’s available in three different versions:
“Arcade Archives Donkey Kong for the Switch features three ‘original mode’ versions of the arcade game: an ‘early version’ with bugs, a ‘later version’ that was fixed for Japan, and an ‘international version’ with subtle tweaks that debuted everywhere outside of Japan.”
There are a variety of other bonus features on this version of Donkey Kong too, but at the end of the day it’s a new way to play an old, old favorite.
