Today would have been the 76th birthday of rock god Lou Reed of The Velvet Underground and the movie Get Crazy. He died in 2013, but like all true artists he left behind some stuff to put out after he was gone. Do Angels Need Haircuts? was written back in 1970, while Lou was cooling his heels after splitting with the Velvets. But it’s taken until 2018 for it to be published, along with an afterword by Lou’s wife Laurie Anderson and a foreword by fellow poet Anne Waldman. The book also comes with a recording made at a poetry reading Lou performed in 1971 in New York, one of which you can hear below:
Do Angels Need Haircuts? is reportedly due out in April of this year.
