The 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes seemed to me to be on a new level for special effects, giving CGI apes almost completely realistic looks and motions. Now, it looks like we can take the “almost” out of that statement when discussing the upcoming sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
At least, that’s what the Dawn of the Planet of the Ape‘s first trailer would seem to indicate. It ends on an extended closeup of Caesar, the ape antihero of the first movie, and that closeup shot appears to be as real as it gets—we’ve come a long way from Jar-Jar Binks, that’s for sure.
The trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also gives you a look at the film’s human element, which does not include the star of the first movie, James Franco. Instead, we have Gary Oldman, which in my opinion is a slight upgrade.
