I’m not a Star Wars scholar but I nevertheless feel comfortable saying that Darth Maul was the best character to come out of George Lucas‘ much-maligned prequel trilogy. Since Maul’s untimely death in The Phantom Menace, we haven’t really had an opportunity to see the guy in action, but a fan film entitled Darth Maul: Apprentice shows the Sith Lord’s origins as they might have occurred.
Darth Maul: Apprentice is pretty impressive for a fan film, eighteen minutes long and full of well-choreographed lightsaber battles. Director Shawn Bu reportedly took two years to complete it, which probably means the fact that Donald Trump is no longer the most evil person to be associated with a work entitled “Apprentice” is a happy accident rather than Bu’s intentions.
You can watch Darth Maul Apprentice below. And if it has you interested in more of Shawn Bu’s work, you can check out his other stuff on Vimeo right here.
