If you’ve never read David Gann’s New Yorker article “True Crimes – A postmodern murder mystery,” also included in his excellent book The Devil and Sherlock Holmes, you definitely should. You should because it’s a great, creepy piece of incredible but true storytelling, but you also should because it’s getting turned into a Jim Carrey movie with a stunningly stupid title: Dark Crimes.
Dark Crimes stars Carrey as a police detective who notices some disturbing parallels between an unsolved murder and a novel by a famous writer. Hopefully Dark Crimes will be pretty good, despite its title and its unorthodox release schedule, reportedly coming to DirecTV on April 19th followed by a limited theatrical run the following month, on May 11th.
