Spike Lee directing some commercials isn’t necessarily surprising — Spike has never been shy about teaming up with big corporations when he had to — but I have to admit I am kind of surprised he’s allowed his new collaboration with Uber to get his unique “A Spike Lee Joint” designation (he didn’t even release Oldboy that way!). It’s called Da Republic of Brooklyn, and here’s the man himself on why he wanted to tell a few real-life Brooklyn Uber drivers’ stories:
“I was attracted to this project because I know a lot of people who drive on the Uber platform and it gives them the flexibility they need to pursue their dreams. That’s how we do it in Brooklyn – that’s the Brooklyn hustle.”
