Reaching for Nissin Cup Noodles at your local grocery store has its fair share of advantages—affordability, convenience, deliciousness, speed, simplicity—but good nutrition simply isn’t one of them. But for the first time in the brand’s 45-year North American history, the people at Nissin are revamping the recipe in order to achieve “the same taste but with an improved nutritional profile.”
The new Cup Noodles recipe is similar to the new Kraft Mac & Cheese recipe from a while back, only it would appear that Nissin isn’t going for Kraft’s change-the-recipe-and-don’t-tell-anyone gambit. In a press release on the change, Nissin gives credit for the change to the customers:
“They told us that without sacrificing taste, the three most compelling changes we could make to our recipe were: lower sodium, no added MSG and no artificial flavors. This is exactly what we’ve been able to accomplish.”
