You’ve heard “my face is my livelihood,” and apparently in the future everyone’s face will be their burgerhood. Worldwide burger chain Caliburger has unveiled what they call FACE at their Pasadena location, and the Caliburger FACE kiosk lets customers pay for their food by identifying themselves facially.
In order to use Caliburger FACE technology, customers first have to create an account with the restaurant’s loyalty program. Then, when they go to the kiosk, their face is recognized and their payment information is engaged – and their previous orders become available for order as well. Here’s Cali Group CEP John Miller on the technology:
“Our goal for 2018 is to replace credit card swipes with face-based payments. Facial recognition is part of our broader strategy to enable the restaurant and retail industries to provide the same kinds of benefits and conveniences in the built world that customers experience with retailers like Amazon in the digital world.”
You can see how the Caliburger FACE kiosk works in the video below. And you should probably get used to seeing a lot more stuff like this in the future.
