Martin Heck and his German production company Timestorm Films didn’t set out to capture a volcano eruption in two different high-definition video formats – volcano eruptions are difficult to predict accurately, for one. But he did nevertheless, and his work documenting the Calbuco volcano in southern Chile is stunning to watch.
Heck’s footage of the recent Calbuco eruption was captured with Pentax 645Z and Canon 6D cameras, and he wasn’t just able to immortalize the event in 4K “Ultra HD,” but 8K “Full Ultra HD” as well. Now, chances are you won’t be able to fully appreciate this stuff unless you’re an Ultra HD early adopter, but even on my plain old computer screen it’s pretty incredible stuff.
You can watch the Calbuco volcano erupting in crystal clarity below. And for more Timestorm Films from Martin Heck, just take a look at the company’s official site over on Vimeo right here.
