BoardUp: “The World’s First Self-Folding Longboard”

by Joseph

The first self-folding longboard in the world is now in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Not to be confused with “Bird Up,” the worst show on television, it’s BoardUp, a longboard that circumvents many of the issues associated with lugging such boards around by way of an ingenious self-folding hinge in the middle.

According to its makers, BoardUp does not appear to sacrifice much in the way of functionality or durability for its self-folding feature. It can support up to 400 pounds, while weighing only seven, and it’s guaranteed not to fold inadvertently while riding—an obvious plus.

You can get some more information on how BoardUp works and the advantages to a self-folding longboard at the product’s Kickstarter listing right here, where you can pre-order your own board starting at just under $160 and up from there. The board’s fundraising goal has already been handily surpassed (and almost doubled), so deliveries slated to begin in February should be right on schedule.
