Customization in smart watches and other mobile devices is usually more of a software issue than a hardware one, but as hinted at by Google’s Project Ara earlier this year, the future may be in modular devices with component parts that do one individual thing and that can be swapped out and combined with one another at will. That’s also the premise behind BLOCKS, a modular smartwatch now on Kickstarter.
BLOCKS gets its name from the modular, uh, blocks that can be added and subtracted from the watch’s band. If you’re planning on taking a lot of photos outdoors over a long period, for instance, the Camera module would be a good idea, as would the Extra Battery one. And with plenty of modules already being developed there will potentially be a perfect combination for almost any scenario.
You can get more info on BLOCKS at the watch’s Kickstarter listing right here, where pre-orders start at $285 for delivery in the summer of 2016.
