When Mad Max: Fury Road became a surprise summer smash last year, one of the many things about it that left box office experts scratching their heads was that it represented George Miller’s completely uncompromising vision successfully making it to the screen, and audiences, despite all conventional wisdom, loved it. But it turns out that the wild movie wasn’t quite completely uncompromised, since George Miller actually wanted to make the movie in a “Black & Chrome” version that is actually getting a home video release … in Germany.
Hopefully the “Black & Chrome” version of Mad Max: Fury Road will get a wider release than just as a bonus feature on a box set for German movie collectors, but the fact that it’s coming out at all is pretty cool. No one has seen this version yet, but it’s reported to be pretty much the same version we all know and love, but in crisp black and white instead of vivid color.
That aforementioned box set can be pre-ordered on Amazon here, but make sure your Blu-ray can handle German imports before you buy. And you never know – maybe the Mad Max: Fury Road will be making a “Black & Chrome” appearance at a theater near you someday.
