Bill Nye the Science Guy has been a more or less constant presence in popular culture for the almost 20 years since his show went off the air, but he has not had his own show in that amount of time.
That’s changing thanks to that home for many entertainment legends of the past couple decades, Netflix, who recently announced Bill Nye Saves the World, coming to the streaming service sometime next year. Here’s the Science Guy himself on what the project, in a statement made to Variety:
“Since the start of the ‘Science Guy’ show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
Bill Nye Saves the World will tackle a single topic per episode, similar to John Oliver’s HBO series, and one sign that it will continue the entertainment/education tradition of Nye’s famous older series is that it has hired both a Head Comedy and Head Science Writer.
