Pen company BIC is dealing with the 21st century’s relative lack of interest in writing instruments with a very cool internet-based experiment in penmanship. It’s called the Universal Typeface Experiment, and it’s collecting handwriting samples (including potentially yours) from all over the world in the hopes of creating a font out of all of them.
Since I’ve had terrible handwriting for as long as I can remember, I thought I’d give it a try and mess up the Universal Typeface for everybody else. It took me about ten minutes and afterward I was able to see how my upper case letters compare to the worldwide average.
You can do it too if you have a smartphone and a few minutes to spare by checking out BIC’s Universal Typeface Experiment right here. And if your handwriting is anywhere near as bad as mine, it will make you want to start practicing your loops and whatnot.
