It’s my opinion that every video game franchise should do at least one installment set in ancient Egypt. Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Pac-Man, Super Mario, all of these games would be significantly improved with the addition of ancient Egyptian architecture, weaponry, and perhaps a mummy or two. I’ve long been considered a crackpot for my beliefs, but now a “cinematic trailer” for Assassin’s Creed Origins has vindicated me once and for all.
The cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Origins is soundtracked by the late, lamented Leonard Cohen, which as it happens is also something I think the next Mario game should do. It shows the game’s protagonist, Bayek, who players will guide through an adventure that will establish the, wait for it, origins of the Assassin Brotherhood.
