‘Arthropoda Iconicus’: Insects Based on ‘Star Wars’

Don’t worry, Richard Wilkinson is not some kind of mad genetic engineer who’s created a breed of insects based on a popular feature film franchise. Instead, he’s an artist who’s selling prints of just those types of insects, for a collection called Arthropoda Iconicus.

The first wave of Arthropoda Iconicus prints features insects based on popular Star Wars characters like R2-D2, the inspiration for “Roboduobus Deoduobus.” And maybe my Star Wars knowledge is rusty, but most of the other bugs aren’t quite as obvious, making this a proposition for hardcore fans only. According to the artist, he’s going to release his designs in a book:

“The first book of the series, working title: Arthropoda Iconicus Volume I: Insects From A Far Away Galaxy, is a collection of insects that bear a subtle yet uncanny resemblance to characters and vehicles from the worlds favourite space opera.”

Check out Arthrpoda Iconicus at Wilkinson’s official site here, where you can also find a link to purchase your own limited edition print.
