One of the few pleasures of living in the early-to-mid 21st century is bearing personal witness to the unlikely career transformation of John Carpenter from genre film director to rock star. He released both Lost Themes and Lost Themes II over the past few years, and went on the road to play not just tracks from those albums but his familiar movie themes as well. Now, the latter have gotten their time in the studio album sun, with the release of JC’s Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998.
Despite its title, Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 is not a compilation of the theme songs to films like Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, and The Fog. Instead, those songs and many others have been rerecorded by Carpenter and his band, for a music experience that’s new but faithful to the unique sensation of watching a John Carpenter film.
Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 is available now in various formats, including streaming on Spotify which you can check out below.
