If you’re a billionaire who dreams every night of owning your own supersonic jet, I have some pretty good news – you only have about eight more years to wait before you can fly your very own. That is, if you’re lucky enough to be the owner of one of Flexjet’s recent order of 20 Aerion AS2 airplanes, which will be the first privately owned supersonic jets in the world.
The Aerion AS2 (which is being developed in part by Airbus) won’t hit any skyways near you until 2023, but that’s understandable given its purported capabilities. It will use Supersonic Natural Laminar Flow technology to make the flight from London to New York City—which now takes about eight hours—in just five and a half hours.
2023 is a long way off, but if there’s one thing people who demand the fastest-possible travel options be available to them are famous for, it’s their patience. For now, you can check out the Aerion AS2 in the video below, courtesy of Sploid.
