The adidas Originals Micropacer has a history that goes back three decades – 30 years this year, to be precise – and now it’s getting a new reissue in honor of its 30th anniversary. That history began in 1984, when the Micropacer was released in honor of the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles, and is still going strong now.
That’s thanks to this new adidas Originals Micropacer OG 30th Anniversary reissue, which as the name suggests is a direct replica of how the sneaker looked back in the mid-80s. That means it has a shiny silver upper and metallic blue accents, but its most distinctive feature might come as a surprise to those not well-versed in their sneaker history. Back in 1984, the Micropacer came equipped with a microcomputer and LCD screen that calculated distance, speed, and more as the wearer ran.
It’s a common enough technology now, but back in 1984 the Micropacer must have seriously blown some minds. Now it’s back to blow some minds again, and you’ll be able to get it from select adidas retailers and the adidas online store here starting on August 16th. Until then, take a look at the promotional video about the reissue below.
