It’s been a rough couple of weeks for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, between the murder and gun crime charges, and getting completely erased from the Patriots’ website. But for savvy memorabilia collectors and sellers, it’s been a very GOOD couple of weeks.
At the risk of sounding morbid, here’s what I mean: Even though Hernandez’s personal stock couldn’t be lower, the price of his memorabilia (particularly, signed jerseys) is skyrocketing. A search on eBay for “signed Aaron Hernandez jersey” shows they’re going for anywhere between $150 to more than $1000, and the bidding isn’t over yet.
It just goes to show you that the collectors’ market knows no boundaries, particularly where good taste is concerned. And if you happen to have a choice piece of Hernandez swag, you might want to hang onto it, as analysts expect the value to grow even higher if he’s convicted.
