A car that drives on land and in the water is pretty much the ultimate dream of transportation. And like most dreams, it actually came true in the 1960s before failing to really take hold definitively – but now, you can own a real 1966 Amphicar 770 when it goes up for auction later this month.
The 1966 Amphicar 770 is “the only commercially successful ‘car that swims,'” and the one that’s hitting the auction block in a couple weeks is the former property of Mr. Sidney Armistead, who owned the car between 1972 and 2004. He sold it to Eugene Francavilla of Jupiter, FL, who went about its extensive restoration, and who’s now letting it go for an estimated winning bid between sixty and seventy-five grand.
Check out this Lagoon Blue 1966 Amphicar 770 at RM Auctions and Sotheby’s listing for the vehicle right here. The auction is scheduled for Friday, August 18th, so you still have a little bit of time to save up/move somewhere near a large body of water.
