If you had told me 10 years ago that, in 2013, pretty much every craft brewery in North America would be putting out a pumpkin-flavored beer each fall, I probably would have given you a funny look. (Ditto for pumpkin-flavored coffee drinks.) It’s not that I didn’t like pumpkin or anything. It’s that I wouldn’t have thought it would become the beloved fall flavor that it is. Yet here were are.
Of course, when it comes to beer, variety and experimentation are always good. There is, however, one downside to the pumpkin beer trend: there are so many options that it can be hard to choose.
Luckily for you, we’re here to help. Today’s list features 17 of the best pumpkin beers in the pumpkin beer-drinking-and-making world (which is basically just North America), as determined by the users of BeerAdvocate.com and RateBeer.com.
Now, the brews will be presented in a countdown format, as I’ve tried to do my best to give a ballpark ranking to them. However, don’t get caught up in that. The rankings of these two sites vary quite a bit, so combining their scores into a single list is difficult. I took the top-ranked pumpkin beers with at least 100 reviews, then made my best guess at where each beer should fall.
The more important thing you should take away here is that these pumpkin beers are all reported to be excellent. So if you see them on the shelf in a store near you you should definitely try them.
