Back in the day people didn’t have to worry about eating healthy. They had to worry about eating, period. But, assuming there was food to be had, they could be pretty sure it was good for them.
Modernity has changed all that, unfortunately. Now you can’t just walk into the grocery store and assume that anything you buy will be good for you, or even 100% real food. There are chemicals, there are additives, and there are highly processed sugars and salts in just about everything. Sure, the food-like products taste great, because salt and sugar are amazing. But they’re not always good for you.
Then, on top of that, you have sly marketing and labeling. Governments around the world try to ensure that food producers are not misleading consumers, but the regulations are always a step (or three) behind. So if you want to eat healthy you’ve got to inform yourself.
That’s the goal of today’s list of foods that seem healthy but aren’t. Every day we are confronted with choices when it comes to food, and while you may think you’re always making the best choices, you may be mistaken.
Of course, I’m not trying to say you shouldn’t eat any of these things, or that everything you eat should always be totally good for you. Beer and hot wings are the best, and I’d never suggest you give them up. But wouldn’t it be nice to know that, when you are trying to eat healthy, you actually are?
