49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Calls Out Jimmy Garoppolo For His Poor Vs. the Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers entered their opening game as the favorites against their division rival in the Arizona Cardinals, but they couldn’t quite put them away at home.

Despite the expectations heading into the season, the 49ers had a letdown in the 4th quarter, which was eerily similar of their Super Bowl LIV loss back in February.

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo came under fire again as he went 19-of-33 on attempted passes for a total of 259 passing yards. Not to mention, he had terrible turnovers that ended their final offensive possession. The 28-year-old went 5 for 8 for 27 yards on that final drive.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan voiced his frustrations on the team, and especially his QB:

“He had some good plays in there, but just like the entire offense, just missed a number of opportunities that it was going to take to win that game,” Shanahan said. “We had a couple there. He’s got to play better. We’ve all got to play better on offense especially. It starts with me.”

The 49ers will look to rebound next week when they face the New York Jets.
