Massimo Listri

Personally, when I think about libraries, I think about cozy suburban branches, or massive modern downtown libraries, rather than the opulent cathedrals of learning that have been around for hundreds of years. Still, in browsing around the new Taschen joint Massimo Listri: The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries, I can see the appeal of the latter. As per the publisher:

“At once a bibliophile beauty pageant, an ode to knowledge, and an evocation of the particular magic of print, Massimo Listri is above all a cultural-historical pilgrimage to the heart of our halls of learning, to the stories they tell, as much as those they gather in printed matter along polished shelves.”

Massimo Listri: The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries is over 660 pages long, and takes readers to the oldest and most beautiful libraries on Earth. You can order a copy, priced at a little under $160, at Amazon right here, or you can hope your local library picks up a copy that you can check out for free.
