It has been almost five years since 2014’s Godzilla, the latest in a long line of attempts to modify the Japanese monster for American audiences. Tokyo, it seems, is pretty good at bouncing back after a kaiju attack or 12, but the rest of the world doesn’t appear to be quite so resilient in the upcoming sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters. That’s per director Michael Dougherty, who recently talked to Entertainment Weeklyabout the movie to go along with two new “first look” images (check them out in the gallery above):
“The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting. There’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether [Godzilla] is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”
Ah, paranoia … there’s nothing like going to your local cineplex and escaping the troubles of the world. Godzilla: King of the Monsters comes out in May of next year.
