ByNWR: Nicolas Winding Refn’s Free Streaming Service Launching Soon
Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of such films as Drive, Only God Forgives, and the Pusher trilogy is launching his very own streaming service, for underseen cult films that have his personal stamp of approval. It’s called ByNWR, and it will purportedly launch sometime later this month with a grand total library of … four films.
Those films are Night Tide, The Nest of the Cuckoo Birds, The Burning Hell, and Hot Thrills and Warm Chills, all of which you likely have never heard of unless you are a graduate-level connoisseur of exploitation cinema. Here’s Refn himself, explaining why he decided to get into the streaming business:
“Over recent years, I’ve bought and had restored scores of old movies as a hobby. I wondered what to do with them. Then I realised I should share them for free, so I set up a website where they could be streamed. There’s no catch; you’re not being sold anything. Take it or leave it.”
That’s from the director’s recent piece in The Guardian on ByNWR, which you can read in its entirety here.
