Cocaine + Surfing

The thing about surfing is, people assume it’s healthful because it happens outside. But actually, after the golden age of the sport there was an edge that was just as potentially damaging as anything Travis Bickle or Keith Richards were putting into their bodies in their heydays. This is covered in a new book, titled Cocaine + Surfing: A Sordid History of Surfing’s Greatest Love Affair.

Author Chas Smith pens Cocaine + Surfing as an expose on the relationship between white caps and white powder. As the publisher puts it:

“Cocaine + Surfing peels the curtains back on a hopped up, sometimes sexy sometimes deadly relationship and uses cocaine as the vehicle to expose and explain the utterly absurd surf industry to outsiders. It also explores where dreams go when they die.”

Cocaine + Surfing: A Sordid History of Surfing’s Greatest Love Affair comes out on June 12th, in the thick of coke season, and you can pre-order your copy from Amazon right here.
