Songwriters Fonts

An underrated but still crucial part of the art of songwriting is the actual physical process of writing lyrics down on paper. Today this probably happens on computers and smartphones, but back in the day(s) famous songwriters like Kurt Cobain, David Bowie, John Lennon, and so on wrote what would become generation-defining lyrics in their own barely legible scrawls. And now you can steal that small sliver of their essences for your own writing, thanks to Songwriters Fonts.

Songwriters Fonts are a line of downloadable fonts modeled after the distinctive penmanship of the above mentioned artists, as well as Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg. I have no factual insight into the legal intricacies of this project, but I can’t help but notice that all of the included artists are deceased, so maybe more fonts will come as the rock gods continue to travel to the great Chelsea Hotel in the sky.

For now, you can check out (and download) the current slate of Songwriters Fonts at the project’s official site right here.
