Ornette Coleman: The Atlantic Years

Between 1959 and 1961, jazz master Ornette Coleman released six studio albums for Atlantic Records that would pioneer and define the free jazz movement. If that sounds like something you might need to bone up on, Rhino has got you covered with a new upcoming vinyl box set entitled Ornette Coleman: The Atlantic Years.

Ornette Coleman: The Atlantic Years contains ten vinyl LPs, with those aforementioned six albums as well as three compilation albums spread out across them. Rounding out the set is The Ornette Coleman Legacy, a set of six songs originally released as part of Rhino’s CD box set of Coleman’s work in the early 90s. Here’s the complete rundown of the works included:

The Shape Of Jazz To Come (1959)
Change Of The Century (1959)
This Is Our Music (1960)
Free Jazz (1960)
Ornette! (1961)
Ornette On Tenor (1961)
The Art Of Improvisers (1970)
