John Carpenter's Halloween

It’s Friday the 13th, in October no less, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t leave you with something spooky this afternoon. Luckily, I have just such a something, albeit not one that syncs up calendar-wise as neatly as one might hope. Then again a Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross cover of the Friday the 13th theme music probably wouldn’t have quite the same oomph as their new track entitled “John Carpenter’s Halloween.”

A fairly straightforward cover of the JC‘s iconic title music for his breakthrough hit Halloween in Reznor and Ross’ familiar style, “John Carpenter’s Halloween” is sufficient to get anybody into the Halloween spirit. But there’s some warmth to be found here too, in Reznor’s gushing press statement that accompanied the release:

“[My friends and I] left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred, with the shit genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.”
