Vincent: Interactive Software Can Change Your Sketches into Masterpieces (Video)
Machines will never be able to create art like humans can, but they are getting creepily good at ripping it off. Take Vincent, a new program that’s built to make any sketch into a painting in the style of a variety of Renaissance masters, like Cézanne, Picasso, and Vince’s own namesake Vincent van Gogh.
Here’s Machine Learning Director Monty Barlow in a recent Engadget interview about the project:
“We’re exploring completely uncharted territory –- much of what makes Vincent tick was not known to the machine learning community just a year ago. By successfully combining different machine learning approaches … we’ve created something hugely interactive, taking the germ of a sketched idea and allowing the history of human art to run with it.”
Check out Vincent’s “AI style transfer” in action in the video below. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to research whether or not this technology can be used for me to finally become a cartoonist like I always dreamed.
