“The Dragon and the Wolf” Was the Most-Watched ‘Game of Thrones’ Episode Yet
On Sunday night, did it all of a sudden seem like more of your friends than ever were watching Game of Thrones? As it turns out, it wasn’t just your imagination, but an actual statistical phenomenon now illustrated by the report that the show’s season seven finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” was the most watched episode in the history of the show.
The Nielsen ratings for “The Dragon and the Wolf” show a total of 16.5 million viewers if you count people watching the show on demand or (legally) streaming it online. And a staggering 12.1 million people were actually watching it the old-fashioned way, as it was broadcast on HBO.
That’s a reported 36 percent increase over last season’s finale, and if my instincts aren’t failing me it also means that next season’s series finale for Game of Thrones will probably make “The Dragon and the Wolf” seem like a late night infomercial.
